My Rating: ★★★★☆
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban follows Harry Potter in his third year at Hogwarts as a dangerous prisoner escapes from Azkaban, seemingly with Harry as his target. As secrets about Harry’s past begin to surface, the story explores themes of loyalty, fear, and truth.
This book felt like a turning point for the series. I loved how the story became a little darker and more emotionally complex while still keeping that magical, nostalgic feeling.
As someone who grew up watching the movies, I really appreciated how faithful the book felt while also adding more depth to the characters and their relationships. The emotional moments hit harder, and the story felt more mature.
Again, familiarity with the movie meant fewer surprises, but it didn’t take away from how enjoyable the book was.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is one of the strongest books in the series, offering emotional depth, darker themes, and a story that grows alongside its characters.
